Grants
Laingsburg Educational Advancement Foundation (LEAF) is proud to be a dedicated nonprofit organization that actively provides grants to enhance and enrich educational opportunities and institutions within the greater area of Laingsburg, Michigan. With an impressive track record of offering more than 184 grants, we support a diverse range of projects and activities that would not typically be accessible in a school environment.
Whether it's funding for academics, activities, arts, athletics, or initiatives that remove barriers to learning, LEAF's mission is to foster advancement in education. As an organization, we also offer scholarships and development grants, demonstrating our commitment to nurturing growth and opportunity within the educational landscape.
About Our Grants
The grant cycle corresponds with each academic school year. Starting in the 2020-21 school year, all grant applications are now viewed on a monthly basis until April 1 or until all funds have been exhausted.
All technology-related grants are first reviewed by the district's tech committee, which gives direction to our Board of Directors as we consider how, or if, to fund those types of projects.
LEAF stands proud to have been a supportive partner in the development of a wide range of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) projects through grants and funding. Some of our most recent grant recipients include the following:
Project | Recipient |
Supporting Our Youngest Learners | Angie Mills, Elementary Teacher |
Student Writing Support with Premium NoRedInk | Abby Franks, Middle School Teacher |
Flocabulary: Using Rap in the Classroom | Erin Behrendt, Middle School Teacher |
C2 Row Machine for Weight Room | Shawn Baynes, High School Teacher |
Red Thunder Robotics (Router) | Paul Garrett, High School Teacher |
Desserts with Young Artists | Elena Hebert, High School Teacher |
Grant Forms
At LEAF, we have updated and simplified our application process for our potential grant recipients. Since the 2020-21 academic school year, we shifted our system to an open submission process and will review and make decisions for grant funding on a monthly basis through April of each academic year or until funding has been exhausted.
We ask that you submit all LEAF grant applications online. Applications will be approved on a first-come, first-served basis until we have reached our funding budget limit for the year.
The foundation trustees will review the information you provide to determine the eligibility of your project within the guiding principles of the foundation. We understand the unique situation our educators are in this year and will consider applications for programs and resources that will help you and your students during these extraordinary circumstances.
All applicants will receive a confirmation email that we received your grant request. We ask that all awardees consider following up with a LEAF trustee via email with pictures and details we can share on social media.
As you know, LEAF is supported by donations. To that end, please seek to share the exciting things that happen in the classroom when the grant is used. This can be done through school and local papers, newsletters, and social media, as well as by word of mouth. In that way, we hope to encourage potential donors to become part of our very special program.

We are excited to add photos and videos of the awesome programs that we fund as we have them. Thanks to our teachers for their extra time and effort to go above and beyond for our kids!
Annie’s Big Nature Lesson
Laingsburg third graders have taken part in Annie's BIG Nature Lesson for several years. This is an opportunity for teachers, students, and parent helpers to take their classroom to the outdoors. For five consecutive days, third graders travel to Lansing area nature centers. While there, they learn about their surroundings and the many wonders of the outdoors! LEAF is delighted to help fund these unique learning experiences. Learn more about Annie's Big Nature Lesson.
Chromebooks for English-Language Arts
LEAF purchased thirty Chromebooks for English-Language Arts classrooms in the third grade and middle school. The design of Chromebooks allows students to easily create and collaborate across grade levels as well as buildings.
Third-grade and middle school students are currently partnering up and learning together! The older students are able to mentor younger students through the writing processes and peer-editing. Both students are benefiting. The ability to apply and teach others is to truly master knowledge. There is also time set aside where students get to meet face to face and build bonds together!
This technology promotes a well-structured individualized learning environment, enhances self-initiated learners, and assists in the mastering of typing skills. Also, collaborative work improves communication and social skills.
Wireless iPad Keyboards for Laingsburg Middle School
New wireless Bluetooth iPad keyboards made it easier for Laingsburg Middle School students to use their iPads for writing and research assignments. In addition to funding the keyboards, LEAF's grant allowed teacher Lisa Kingsbury to purchase a storage cabinet so the units would stay organized and protected when not in use.
The wireless keyboards have been a big hit with the students. Here's the feedback from Mrs. Kingsbury:
"The keyboards all arrived and were greeted with much excitement. The cabinet is a huge help in allowing the students to find the correct keyboard. On the first day, they were assigned numbers for English class so that their keyboards could sync properly each day when they came to class. It has worked well. Some students use them every day. Others prefer them only when we are working on something larger than the daily journal. One observation that has really pleased me is that it seems to be some of my students who were more reluctant to write and who get the keyboards out on a consistent basis. They are doing a bit more writing for me with the keyboard. Thank you so much for all you do to support learning in our schools!"
